Subject: Replacement chain brands

I've seen all the on-line guides for chain maitenance and "How to's" for chain replacement, but I havn't seen much in the way of how to choose a paticular chain manufacture and which of the different chains they offer to select. Can I get a little guidence on how to choose the right replacement chain for my bike?

There are:

Shimano
SRAM
KCNC
Wipperman

that all fit Shimano/SRAM drivetrains. I'm not sure abot Campy compatibility, but not many tri-ers run Campy. I may be forgetting a mfr or two, but thaose are the major players.

I hear very good things about the KCNC and SRAM chains with regard to durability vs. Shimano stock replacements.

I thought Pro tour teams took off their sram chains and replaced with dura ace because they sucked

I don't know about the pros, but I use SRAM - I like the quick link system, and I've never had a problem with the chains.  Plus when you add lube, it is easier to see that you got every link when there is an obvious starting point (i.e. the quick link).  Also you don't need to carry a replacement pin like the Shimano's used to (I don't know if they still do) - just a spare link.
