Subject: 1" Integrated Headset Advice (2007 Felt S22)
Background: I bought a Felt S22 frame on ebay and plan on building it up this month for my first tri in September (Patriots in Williamsburg, VA). I notice that the frame uses a 1-inch integrated headset, and I find these more rare than 1 1/8" headsets. Does anyone with experience in bike building recommend a 1-inch integrated headset for this build? I'm looking at a couple of them right now:

http://www.ride-this.com/index.php/fsa-orbit-is-integrated-headset-1-black.html

I don't need anything fancy; I just want to know what to look for, and I just want it to work. From my research it looks like there's different IS types out there, i.e. Cane Creek, and Campy. I assume they aren't interchangeable, but and advice/issues I should know about, please inform me!

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, but it looks like it's a bit more complicated than that. Firstly, from http://www.bikepedia.com/QUICKBIKE/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2007&Brand=Felt&Model=S22&Type=bike
http://www.feltracing.com/manuals/07Catalog.pdf

It looks like the 07 Felt S22 uses FSA 1" integrated headsets. I double-checked the Cane Creek and FSA websites, and wasn't sure if FSA had their own standard. And even then, FSA has several 1" headsets with different dimensions.

Are the FSA Orbit and Cane Creek IS2 headsets the same dimensions? Chamfers, bearing depths, etc?

I contacted Felt through their website, so hopefully I'll have an answer soon.

CHR15 TREE - 2009-08-14 11:01 AM two types of intragrated headsets

1, the frame acts as the bearing cups/seats
2, seperate bearing cups

both the headsets you posted are type 1.

It appears from Felt's own website the cane creek would have been original spec.

UPADTE: I got an email in response to the integrated headset question, and here's what their email said:

Hello Phil,

Felt appreciates your e-mail and support. We used a Cane Creek 1 inch IS2A Headset. Again thanks for the e-mail and we wish you the best.

Best Regards,

Felt Bicycles
