Subject: Pleasant Prairie Tri (9/27) - Bike Transport
I'm registered for the Danskin Tri in Pleasant Prairie (9/27) and I'm flying in from DC.  This is my first Tri and only recently bought a bike this year so I don't know of any trusted bike shops in Chicago or the northern suburbs to send my bike for reassembly.  I'm using the bike shop from where I bought it to disassemble, pack and ship but don't want to just pick any place to send it.

Any suggestions?  I'm staying in Northbrook but could also get to Chicago to pick up my bike.

Thanks!

Jenny,
It won't be long before your Forum gets some replies.  There are soooo many shops to refer you to that are in the immediate Chicago area along with tri-specific shops to boot!

However, Northbrook is North/far enough from the Chicago area that it might not be practical for you to come all the way into the City to fetch your bike.

If you are going to be in the City you can look up/call Village Cycle as they are a packager/shipper for the Chicago Triathlon.  As such they are very, very experienced in receiving shipped bikes as well as putting them together for you.1337 N Wells St

I purchased a mountain bike from there a few years back and they are very knowledgable.

As for Northbrook itself...I don't have any real experience with shops there, but there is a Northbrook Bike Club and they operate out of George Garner Cyclery: http://georgegarnercyclery.com/map.cfm?ID=1

Hopefully that gets you going in the right direction....Good luck and have fun at your race in Pleasant Prairie.  I'll be there for a different event this weekend.

My husband has taken his bike to the George Garner in Libertyville with good results and I'm a big fan of M&M Cyclery in Mundelein so you could check those out as well.  I'm a tri newbie with no shipping experience myself so I'd love to hear who you decide to use and how it goes.
