Hello all. I'm completely new to this triathalon business. I am in pretty good shape and I want to try a sprint in late september. I don't care if I do well, I just need something to look forward to in order to motivate myself. Do you think a month will leave me still breathing at the finish line?

Hi Jenna and welcome to the insanely fun world of triathlon. If you are already fit you should not have to much trouble finishing a sprint triathlon with a month of focus-as long as you can swim. Is the swim portion of your event in the ocean or pond? This will determine a lot but either way just getting the open water practice is the key.If you are very competetive and want to maximize your output then you will need to practice with someone that has some experience with triathlons.Regardless, I guarantee you'll have a great time and maybe get hooked like the rest of us here. My group is out in RI but will be practicing at the Buzzards Bay Triathlon course very soon if you want to hook up with us.Best,Kevan

4 weeks is not a lot but It can be done... I agree just make sure you can do the swim distance.. Anybody can bike a sprint distance. The run after may be a challange.  I did my first last week and it was harder than I thought and I took 12 weeks to train...But I wanted to beat 1/3 of the field (which I done).  But I trained hard and respected the event...

Respect the distance, train hard and smart and u will be ok...

I just did my first tri two weeks ago and only trained for about 6 weeks (I just quit smoking for ten years) and I came in third for newbees and 71 out of 550 something people and I finished in under 1:30:00. I could barely run two miles and any more than 100 free would kill me. So I would say if your already athletic dont worry about the time just make sure the time you put in is quality time.
