Ive used the lovestrong calorie estimator and i am shocked by the number it gave me. Age 23 height 5-7 weight 198. According to it i should eat over 2800 calories a day and that would still net me a 1.5lbs a week weight loss. I am "very active" according to their standard of measure. doing cardio 4 days (avg 700-800 cals per session burned) a week and playing sports on the weekend. The last time I was regularly eatting 2800 calories i was seeing the worse side of 210 (last year or so decideing with my new hobby i wanted to cut weight).

It takes more time but I would recommend you set your calories to what your daily activity level is minus your workouts, so if it is office and sitting, light.  Then enter your exercise individually.  Just an idea.

Male or Female.

I assumed male (sorry if not).

Here is what I came up with for your stats:

2426 calories to maintain your current weight. (That is just breathing.... not exercise)

You will then need to account for the exercise you do each day.  For example:

2426 + 400 in exercise = 2826 total calorie intake to maintain your current weight

2826 - 500= 2326 to lose a pound

2826 -1000= 1826 to lose 2 pounds a week.

Most over estimate the calories burned exercising so double check that.  I use http://caloriecount.about.com/

PS.  I came up with this based on a BMR formula 6.3 X Weight, 12.9 X Height, 6.8 x Age

Ty, i am coming from a history of bad diet knowledge. Most of which is based on nearly starving yourself. So to hear I should eat this amount of calories with the amount of exercise i do just caught me off guard.
