Comments: Was able to freestyle for most of the way but had to go back-and-forth between freestlye and breaststroke after the turn. What would you do differently?: More time in the pool to build up more endurance and hold freestyle for the entire course. Transition 1
Comments: Still slow in T1 but getting better. HRM gave me a little trouble but other than that it wasn't bad. What would you do differently?: Think about leaving CamelBak behind next time. Bike
Comments: I felt pretty fast when I was on the course but my time was a little disappointing when I saw it. HRM wasn't giving any data and I could tell it was too low on my chest. Tried to adjust but the strap popped out so I had to stuff the HRM into my shorts and forget about it. Cost me a full minute right there. What would you do differently?: More miles on the bike. More speed workouts. Must get faster. Transition 2
Comments: Speed laces made a world of difference. Totally worth the $5 investment. Would have been out much quicker but I had to use the Port-o-let or my bladder would have exploded on the run. Race number was ackwardly wide and didnt' fit my race belt very well. Fell out and had to be fixed costing me a precious 30 seconds. What would you do differently?: Make sure to hit the head before the race next time. Make sure my number is more secure when I set things up pre-race. Run
Comments: HOT! Nothing but sunshine except for a few small trees. HOT! Water and gatorade every mile. HOT! Had to pour at least a cup of water on my head each time just to keep cool. Got lots of encouragement from other racers the whole way. They made a very unpleasant run much more tolerable. Did I mention that it was 100+ degrees and no shade? Post race
Warm down: Met my friends at the finish and found out that Jason won his age group in the Sprint. Got a sandwhich, water and a banana and waited at the finish to see my training buddy Andrew finish ten minutes later. I beat Andrew in a race! Finally I can die a happy man! Found a shady spot to sit down and eat then stretch before the awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of swimming practice. Inexperience in transition. Exhaustion on the run. Event comments: I took home 3rd in my age group! Okay, it was out of 3, but I'm still excited to take home some hardware for all that work. This was my 2nd oly and I took 12 minutes off my PR. Still have plenty to work on but I can't be disappointed when I did better than before. Other than a few small complaints it was a good race and I'll probably be back next year. Last updated: 2005-06-28 12:00 AM

Got up two hours before the start and had some gatorade to wash down a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter.
Went through my usual stretching routine and ate a vanilla gu.
