Triangle Triathlon - TriathlonSprint

View Member's Race Log
Morrisville, NC
United States
NCTS
90F / 32C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 34m 43s
Overall Rank = 546/836
Age Group = Novice Men
Age Group Rank = 26/70
Pre-race routine:

Set up bike and transition area, then just mingled and soaked up the atmosphere.
Event warmup:

Light stretching.
Swim
  • 13m 41s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

Did the warm-up swim 2 weeks prior in 12:03. The course for that must have been quite a bit shorter. Compared that with some other peoples time from both, and all took about 2:00 longer for the Tri.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I kept away from the main group and had smooth sailing the whole swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Did the best I could do at T1. Would like to start practicing clipping the shoes on the bike already. Might cut some time off overall.
What would you do differently?:

Really needed to drink more fluids before heading out.
Bike
  • 45m 5s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Really laid it all out on the swim and the bike, I was very pleased with this particular segment.
What would you do differently?:

HYDRATE. I didn't drink enough water during the bike. Only had Cytomax and felt like there was too much sugar. I felt it in my stomach causing me to feel bloated and uneasy.
Transition 2
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

Took a little extra time here to catch my breath. Should have downed some water and maybe even stretched out for a few seconds. Began to feel pretty overheated here. Also, upon running with my bike, I pulled a muscle in my back and couldn't really run out of the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

HYDRATE. Should've had more water here.
Run
  • 31m 21s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a struggle!!! Felt overheated and exhausted the entire run. I went all-out on the swim and bike, and just ran out of gas for the run. This race really exemplified how I need to alter my training routine. I've been focusing a lot more on swimming than running, and obviously judging by my times, it's time to put more time on the runs.
What would you do differently?:

During the race, I would have hydrated a bit more on the bike and at T2. Just immediately felt gassed on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and caught my breath. Drank water. Stood under a shower tent...aaaaaahhhhh. Drank a Sierra Mist and had a couple of cookies. After about :20 minutes, I felt good. It took a lot longer to feel recovered after this race than any other I've done.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably just running too little. I really am pleased with the swim, T1, bike and T2, when I get better at the running segment, I should be cutting major time off my totals. I am looking forward to the next challenge in Burlington, at the Mission Man.

Event comments:

Looking forward to taking this course on again next year.

Great swim...it stunk that we had to wait so long before our start. I'll be at the Mission Man as well.
