Subject: Training on my own with no program
Hello,

My name is Justin Wabby I'm 42 years old and I'm new to this website.  I have always been interested in getting into shape, but the last few months I have been interested in doing a sprint Triathalon.  I have been training on my own with really no program to follow.  I go the the gym at least 4 times per week, and when I go, my regular routine consist of doing a 1 hours spin class sometimes I may only spin for 30 or 45 min.  I usually get in anywhere from 11 to 20 miles depending on how long I spin for.  After I spin I get on the treadmill and run 3 miles it takes me anywhere from 26 to 28 min to complete the 3 miles on the treadmill, and after I run, I go right to the pool and swim about 25 to 30 laps in the pool.

Now for my question since I have no set training program to follow, is it ok that I do all 3 events each time I work out 4 days per week.  I thought if I'm training for a Triathalon I better do all 3 events each time I work out.  Is this a good thing or bad thing.

I think that you may want to try running outside instead of a treadmill a few times a week . You may want to get some experience on the bike outside as well but that is up to you. Is it a pool swim or a Open water swim ??? If open water then you Definetely want to get some Open water experience before your race. Good Luck...

I also work "plan free" as I feel confident in doing so right now, but I do feel that focusing on 1 or 2 disciplines at a time is much better than all 3.

Riding 25 miles plus a 5 mile run in one day, is more beneficial than riding 12 miles, swimming 500 meters, then running 3 miles. That way when you add em all together, you have more than needed experience.

But, YMMV.
