Good Morning. I'm getting back into the swing of tri fully after taking two years to tackle the world of roller derby. I've decided that the tri world suits me better and comes with far less drama. I've been competing in triathlon for about 12 years now, so I'm not really a beginner, but I am about to attempt my first xterra race next weekend. Having just begun mountain biking this spring, I'm a little terrified. I've been riding as much as possible, pushing myself to encounter technical trails, and trying to convince myself that this is a good idea. So far I've taken a few rough spills but fortunately nothing debilitating. Trail running is no problem, but I fear I'll come pretty close to the cutoff time for the bike course because I'm still riding so slowly on the trails. It's crazy to think that I'm worried about finishing 16 miles in 3 hours when on the road I could easily complete 56 in the same amount of time!

I've known about BT for awhile, but only recently decided to join on the recommendation of a friend. I'm looking forward to learning everything I can about the world of xterra while sharing with others my knowledge and experience in traditional triathlon.

Happy training,

Shop Cat

Welcome to the world of Xterra!  Once you do one, you won't want to stop!  I race in both road and Xterra's; and while definetly more challenging, they are a lot more fun!

You should be able to make the cut off; 3 hours for 16 miles is quite a bit of time, especially if your already an experienced cyclist.  Which race are you going to do?

Good luck, shoot me an e-mail or message if you have any questions!

I'm doing Xterra whitewater near Charlotte. I'm definitely fit enough to complete the course; just green in the technical skills. Must remember to stay relaxed. Thanks for the encouragement!

Nice, good luck up there!  I was going to go to that race but have some other things going on that weekend (

I heard the swim is the interesting part of that race; swim in a river; run through a park, swim through another river to T1; sounds like fun!

Yep, stay relaxed, look ahead, and don't look at the tough stuff - if you look at the rock you'll hit the rock!
