Pre-race routine:

After an almost three hour drive starting at 4:45a.m. in very hard rain (what should have been less than a two hour drive) Chris and I arrived already a little mentally taxed from the road trip. However spirits were high as the rain started to taper off upon arriving at the tent. The race directors prepared very nicely.

Drank cup of java, Koolaid, powerbar, orange.
Event warmup:

stretch...no warmup
Run

Comments:

Very dissapointed in how poorly I did on the hills. But, chalk it up for a run...and now i know what needs improvement. Thats key!
What would you do differently?:

I would not have had so many conversations with others on the coarse...I would have settled in from the beginning..maybe with mp3 player and soley focus on myself. Also, I would have wore runners glide as my inner thighs hurt like hell right now!
Post race
Warm down:

brisk walk...bananna...apple... change into WARM DRY CLOTHES!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hills...Hills...Hills... have not trained on any this year...and was forced to hit some very good ones! Taxed my legs and calf felt it on last three miles.

Event comments:

Interestingly the guy that won set a course record 2:38:00. I heard his comment when the director asked him how he liked the hills (I'm guessing expecting a response like..."they were tough..but i pulled through)... but nope! I heard the guy respond they were "Indiscernible" and I laughed outloud...as I'm sure the guy heard me...and probably thought I was an idiot..but whatever, I can't believe he was cocky enough to respond that way! Although, I'll never know what it feels to run that good!

Course: Course was amazing! The first 4 miles were breathtaking, even in the rain! Definately a run for nature lovers...really felt alive on the course. And although for the most part there were rolling hills, miles 6-9 were VERY unpredictable and what I had decided would be my ramp up time in my HR, turned out to be more than I bargined for. My goal was to keep base at 155 first 6, then ramp up to 165+ thereafter. I hit the 165 EASILY as starting at mile 6 there was almost a mile gradual climb that taxed me fairly well. Then more hills to come. After mile 9 it leveled back into rolling hills, but by then my hopes of getting done under 2 hours were shot. All the same, I can't say enough about how well of a race they put on. Plenty of water stops (even in the cold dreary rain) and everyone was very friendly!

I live in LaGrange and have a membership to Callaway Gardens...I can vouch for you on the hills.  I ran the 5K this morning.  Went yesterday to pick up my race packet and decided to walk the 5K course.  In the process drove through most of the marathon/half marathon loop.  "Indiscernible" is NOT how I would describe those hills.

Great run!
