Swim
Comments: Went out of the gate waaay to fast and I was out of breath during the last third of the race. Had to breath every second stroke instead of every third. Passed by one swimmer but I passed four! What would you do differently?: Keep a steady pace. I went out too fast because of adrenaline. Overall a good swim however. Transition 1
Comments: I have clipless bike shoes. the socks were tight and I struggled to get them on. i was wearing a trisuit so i didn't need to take off my suit, Left my gloves off and put them on on the ride. What would you do differently?: looser socks. consider changing to clips and use my running shoes instead. Mostly need to practice this more. Bike
Comments: Wow my age group ranking is really bad. 25/26. I could have gone at a better pace but I was worried about my run time. Running is by far my worst event. Met my goal of at least 18 MPH. What would you do differently?: Not much. Not fall. Work on feeling more confortable on the bike and drink more on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: My running shoelaces were knotted and I struggled to get them on. Cost me a good 1 minute. What would you do differently?: Pre tie shoes and just slip them on. Run
Comments: Sadly this is a PB for a 5k. I had horrible tightening of my legs from inadequate muscle endurance. Haven't been able to train my running because I have had knee troubles. The cardio was not rate limiting at all. What would you do differently?: Need to add aqua jogging so I can train running three days a week. Post race
Warm down: Bagels, grapes, powerade. Walked around the finish site. Hugged my wife and son. What limited your ability to perform faster: Recently I suffered altitude sickness and exaccerbations of my migraines. They caused me to stop training for almost two weeks one month before the race. My left reconstructed knee has been very sore after ski trip early in March. Event comments: Definately going to do this race again next year. the Marines were very courteous. The race was organized and well run. Last updated: 2006-03-19 12:00 AM

Overall Rank = 209/350
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 22/29
I woke up at 5:30, took a shower and drank three glasses of water. Peanut butter ion a bagel. No coffee. Got to the race site at 7:30 as recommended. Got my transition area set up.
My start time was 1h40min after the first racer. I stretched, took a single goo and did light warm ups of about 300m or so trying to find a ten minute pace for the swim.
