Total Time = 1h 24m 56s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 10/10
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:30 and had a cup of coffee with a bagel, banana, and a cereal bar.
Event warmup:

Got to nervous and forgot to warm-up. I probably could have started off a little better with a warmup, but after the swim got started I felt fine.
Swim
  • 07m 26s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Since this was my first Tri I wasn't sure how a pool swim was going to be organized. We started in 20 second intervals from inside the pool. I was ranked 93 out about 180 so I was able to start in the middle. I ended up passing three people, because I got a little keyed up and was going faster than I usually do.
What would you do differently?:

I would at least warm up a little bit before the race.
Transition 1
  • 04m 32s
Comments:

I felt good when I got to my transition but was a little out of breath. Thankfully a lady I work with, her daughter is Shanna Armstrong (she won the women's overall), well she told her that I was going to be there and it would be my first. So she helped me set up my transition to make it easier for me, and I really think that her talkingme through what I needed to do helped me do it automatically.
What would you do differently?:

I spent a lot of time trying to drink some water and catch my breath. I think that I could have done a lot of that on the bike.
Bike
  • 37m 52s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.85 mile/hr
Comments:

The first four miles were into the wind and kept my mph to about 13-14mph. When I amde the turn I was able to pick up the pace to about 17-18mph. Then when I made the turn back with a tailwind I was able to pick it up to 25mph. This is a really good pace for me I usually keep my pace about 18-20mph. So I really fel good about my ride.
What would you do differently?:

Everything was good, but if I needed to change anything I would have drank more water.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

I don't really know what a fast tranisition is, bit I felt that this one was good
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 33m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Now I want to preface all of this by saying that I had one goal when I started this race (being my first) wanting only to finish. Now after starting the run I decided that it would also be the first time that I would run a 5K without walking any part of it. Now into the first quarter mile my right calf started cramping, but after a little while it released with out me stopping or walking. Then after that all I did was just focus on the next block, then the next block, and on until I made it all the way through!
What would you do differently?:

I need to focus on really picking up the pace on my run, but over all I felt good about my first race.
Post race
Event comments:

The only thing that I would have liked to have seen was at least one drink station on the run.

Way to go on your first race! You did awesome! I hope it was a lot of fun too and that you will continue to do more in the future. Triathlons are so addicting and only get better as you go.

Great job on the first race. You've inspired me to start training harder. I've been slacking off, especially in the swimming department.
