Subject: Lessons from the pool?So I've been only doing OWS for about three weeks and did my first tri this past Saturday and age grouped (does it count if there where only six in my AG?). Anyway, today was my first day back in a pool and a while and I learned some stuff I thought others might find interesting and may have experienced after taking a break from the pool. If you have any other lessons please share. 10. There is a lot to look at on the bottom of an indoor pool compared to that weird green color of open water. 9. That timing clock seems really easy to see compared to sighting that buoy ahead of 50 other swimmers and 200m away. 8. The water smells funny, not at all like duck poop. 7. It feels pretty good to pass up the old guy stroking away and kicking with fins every couple laps. 6. Nothing like that full breath of air every 25 m (no I can't flip turn thank you very much). 5. I'm pretty sure 1000m in the pool is 100m shorter than in open water, at least it goes by a lot faster, but not according to the clock...weird. 4. People in the pool sure get up tight about what we call drafting. 3. People in the pool sure kick their feet a lot. 2. No gravel between you and your towel=WIN. But the most important thing: 1. You can only feel like a really great swimmer until the girls high school swim team shows up at 12:30 for their lunch swim. |
