Subject: Is the Scarecrow Batman's true anithesis? (spoilers)

So one of the things I have been thinking about since I saw the last Batman is that the only villian that showed up in all three of the recent Batman movies was Scarecrow. He is obviously the primary villain (though he is working in part for Ra's al Ghul) of Batman Begins. He is in the very beginning of The Dark Knight, and he is running the kangaroo court a la the Reign of Terror in Dark Knight Rises. Like Batman, he appears on the surface to be a regular guy (or in the case of Bruce Wayne, as much a regular guy as a billionaire industrial playboy can be...). He appears to be a native of Gotham, like Batman (at least he is a resident of the city; whereas the Joker is a cipher the entire time, and of course Bane is from the Pit). Like Batman, he is trying to change the nature of the city in the first movie (though obviously in different directions). Like Batman, he is a self-appointed dispenser of justice in the last movie, operating outside the official channels.

Anyone else care to make observations?

I recognized the character, but I'd not thought about his presence to the extent you have.

Perhaps. He works to make people afraid, where Wayne has worked to get over his fears. Could be. I never saw that character to have been worked-up to the extent the others have. He seemed more of a second-tier bad guy in every case.

Great point - I hadn't even thought about the duality of the fear. Even his marginalization could be seen as antithetical - Batman hovers around the dark edges of Gotham, while Scarecrow hovers around the edges of the series.
