Subject: RE: advice on multi distance races (silver plan)tri.bob - 2012-12-29 11:29 PM Hi All, I just signed up for the silver plan since I spend a lot of time lurking and figure it would be good to both give back and to try to make 2013 a successful year. I have 3 races setup for 2013, an Oly, 1/2 and the big race Lake Tahoe IM. I'm curious if anyone has used the training plans for multiple events. My breakdown is: Oly - 20 weeks out 1/2 - 30 weeks out IM - 38 weeks out The first two races are lead-in races just to make sure I'm progressing towards the IM, I was going to start with a 20 week Oly plan but I'm not sure how to mold in the 1/2-IM plans. My current thought is do to the 20 week Oly and then an 18 week IM plan and just have the 1/2 be a long day in the middle. thanks for any feedback, bob Bob Depending on your experience level and strengths and weaknesses, there are quite a few ways to plan your season. What I have found to work for 95% of the athletes I've coached is to a do a sport focus plan for 8 weeks at a time. I usually start this around Dec or Jan 1st and for 8 weeks, the plan is focused on the weakest sport. You'll still maintain fitness in the other two sports, but it will be less of a priority. The 2nd 8 week block will be focused on the 2nd weakest sport. For you, this would leave 4 weeks until your OLY race and that's plenty of time to do a few tune up weeks of training. Once you are done with the OLY race, you then drop into a 10 week HIM plan, OR if you feel the need start your IM training. Like I said, it really depends on your level of experience and strengths and weaknesses. I hope this helps and I hope you enjoy the training! Good luck in your races. |
