Subject: Hello Everyone!
My name is Maria and I live in Chicago. I will be 32 this summer.
I have completed few 5k and 10k runs last and this year, and my friend suggested we should try Sprint Triathlon.
I am very excited for this. My swimming skills suck when it comes to freestyle, I am going to swim breaststroke this year (If there are any other breaststrokers here - please share your experience).
I have small Sprint-Tri on July 26 (300 yards swim/10 miles bike/5k) and the "regular" Sprint on August 30.

The other things I enjoy when it comes to activities is hiking - I am a huge fun of anything outdoor. I camp a lot.
I also sing in the university choir.

I am looking forward to exchange any info and resources, as well as share the support to everyone
Maria

Welcome Maria, I am new to triathlon as well, though I have already completed 3 sprint triathlons this season as well as an OCR and a 5K. This site has a great deal of resources and helpful friendly people.

Nothing wrong with breast stroke, though it is not as fast or efficient as freestyle. My first triathlon this year the swim was terrible with lots of choppy waves and after several waves breaking over me as I tried to inhale, I finished out the race doing breast stroke. It certainly allows for easier breathing and can be a resting/recovery stroke.

Thanks so much for you supportive words!
Right now my breaststroke is faster than the freestyle. And gives me less anxiety. I am planning to stay in the back, so I don't kick anyone. Given it is a slowest style I will end up at the end anyway, so I am hoping I won't injure anyone.
If everything goes well with the Sprint this year I will try longer distance next year, therefore, i will definitely work on my freestyle
I wish you all the best!
Mary
