I am having my knee scoped on thursday the 2nd of September. The doctor says 4 weeks until I can start training again, very light training. Can anyone tell me what the true timeline is and what can I expect in the way of pain?

Maybe 4 weeks? Doctor is looking out for your best interests. Don't take a shortcut.

C,
Thanks! I'm not looking for the short cut just a reality check. Four weeks seemed about right. but not having gone through this before I want to get the correct information. I have looked it up on the net and done some reading but there is nothing like first hand information.

First reply listen to your doctor and let him or her know that you are an athlete. That may effect how aggresive they are with your rehab.

I had a scope in May and was back doing very light bike rides about 10 days post surgery, by Dr. orders. And by very light I mean about 15 slow minutes on my trainer. Pain wasn't too bad I had Surgery on Friday and was back at work by Monday.

The Dr. had me up and biking soon to work on range of motion and starting to strengthen it back up.

But it all depends on what they do while they are in there. I went in expecting no activity and being on crutches for 4 weeks, but the damage wasn't as bad as anticipated and all they ended up doing was removing plica and scar tissue. So it was minor surgery even for a scope. THey can do amazing things with a scope now and no matter what they end up doing your rehab and healing time will be much shorter than if they had to open up the joint.

So to finish up again listen to what ever he says but also make sure he understands your training. Also be sure to do rehabilitation with a certified athletic trainer or a physical therapst that works with athletic injuries
