Pre-race routine:

liquid breakfast (MetRx shake) plus banana
Event warmup:

stretch
Swim
  • 14m 4s
  • 650 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

very cold, got kicked several times at start and goggles fogged up, it took about half the swim till I felt good
What would you do differently?:

get some anti-fog, warm up better
Transition 1
  • 04m 18s
Comments:

I was so cold, fingers were numb so I had a very hard time with shoes and socks, felt like I was moving in slow motion
What would you do differently?:

start to remove wetsuit while running to trans. area, not wear socks, layout my my gear better before hand so I don't have to think about what I'm doing
Bike
  • 1h 11m 57s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 13.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Droped my water bottle twice!! Last place in my age group for this part. Mountain bike just didn't cut it. Found myself working much harder than others for the same result
What would you do differently?:

get a road bike
Transition 2
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

felt a little warmer now so this transition went better
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 25m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

run went well, felt better than expected
What would you do differently?:

drink a little more at the end of bike to hydrate for the run
Post race
Warm down:

slow walk

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The mountain bike slowed me quit a bit also the first transition

Event comments:

Not to bad for my first Triathlon. Transitions need work, swim could be a little better and I need a road bike to compete with others.

Congratulations! It was freaking cold Sunday morning with that wind, wasn't it? Since you were in the wave after me to start, we must have come in from the bike course fairly close to each other. How about that?

Congrats on your finish! It does look so much harder for people with mountain bikes..... You are truly going to love the sport when you get on a road bike to race!

It was so cold! I was in the first wave start and I was so glad to be in the water. It felt warm compared to the air. Great going! Hope to see you at some other races.
