Subject: Bike Trainer
Hi,

I'm looking to buy a bike trainer but can't find a good resource for reviews. Any recommendations? I'm not looking to spend a ton of money but I'd like to invest in a decent one. I've seen a few on Ebay in the $140-160 range, one being the Elite Volare Mag Trainer and another one being a Minoura Hypermag-R bike trainer. Is one of these better than another? Any other recommendations?
Thanks for any help!

I recently bought a Elite mag Voleur (I think it's that one - it's yellow!) and can recommend it. I'm no pro cyclist with little recent cycling background but found it simple to get set up and a great workout. It has about 5 settings and i seem to spend most time on 2 with harder sprints on 3 (using middle range gears) - so it seems to have lots of potential to keep me going even if i massively improve my fitness levels! It's very stable, not too noisy (but I dont have anything to compare it to) and generally feels well made, solid etc.

I'd recommend it - from a limited base of experience!!

Thanks for the input! I'm probably only going to ride on it a few times a week and use it, during the winter, to practice T2 transitions so it sounds like the Elite will be a good fit for me. Thanks so much!

Christi,

One place to look for reviews for almost anything dealing with bicycles is www.roadbikereview.com. I have tried out about 4 different trainers (2 mag, 1 fan, and 1 centrifigal clutch) All of the ones I have tried has provided enough resistance for me, but the fan trainer is noisy. I have heard good reviews about fluid trainers, but they are typically more expensive. You can buy used trainers if you watch out enough on ebay for less than $75 plus shipping. I'm no power rider but do practice some big gear rides on my trainer at times. Good luck on your search.
