Comments: Man the surf was big!! 2-3 foot waves. Made navigation, current management, etc. really tough. You'd have to accomodate it when sighting, breathing and sometimes, you'd drop an arm to pull and you were in air! I took a longer approach to buoy 1 than I would have liked. Plus I had no goggles because they wouldn't stay sealed and thought it better just to ditch them. In retrospect, an OK swim, but I should be pulling a better time. What would you do differently?: I think I need to get comfortable in a wetsuit and start using one. My first experience wasn't good, but intellectually, they're supposed to be an advantage. Transition 1
Comments: Had trouble today with putting on a shirt over a wet body. Couldn't pull the back of the shirt down. Otherwise, an OK T1. Time includes a fair bit of running. What would you do differently?: Use a tri suit (on order) and race belt rather than wearing a bike jersey. Bike
Comments: While racing, I didn't feel like I was doing well. Didn't pick up places and was just holding my own. Looking at the time and rank, not bad! The average pace didn't come over 20mph like I would want it, but the course had some long-ish hills; not my strength. I did gain some advantage descending and am getting more comfortable cornering with the new bike. What would you do differently?: Keep working on sustained longer hills. Transition 2
Comments: A quick shot of Albuterol here What would you do differently?: Not much. Tough to know how to improve such a short segment Run
Comments: Nice to see everyone on the out and back course. I often get into "no man's land" and am running alone which makes it tough to keep up the pace. I felt good today; the time shows that. To most of you, it's pretty awful; for me, that's a good tri-5K. I'm working on it! What would you do differently?: Keep training; it's paying off! Post race
Warm down: Eat lots of freebie fruit, drink and hang out for awards. My friend won her age group! I thought I had third in Clydesdale from the taped up sheets; that was disappointing :-( What limited your ability to perform faster: Below average swim Event comments: I love the venue. 20 years ago, they had a team "relay" there which included a canoe segment out to and around the island along with the three triathlon disciplines. It brought back good memories of those. Last updated: 2007-09-08 12:00 AM

Early 7:00AM start to the race. Lessens the impact of the race on traffic and synchs with high tide. Tough leaving the house at 5:00. After geting my race package, set up the transition (nice spot right near the exit and close to the aisle), I go back to the car to change and get ready.
Take a jog, take a quick ride. Come back to find someone commandeered my transition spot and was setting up. She claims "Your bike wasn't there" as she's moving my towel. After I firmly show her the towel and explain the absence of my bike from the rack and I had been there for over an hour, she moves. I go swim and my goggles simply wouldn't cooperate. I go without and toss them aside.
