Subject: XP Default settings

one of my kids was trying to upload pictures to his iPod/PSP and somehow the settings got changed.  Now, when I click on a link to a picture in the BT albums, instead of going to the album itself within the site, it opens the picture with the Windows picture and fax viewer.  I opened an email in a jpeg file and of course the picture and fax viewer opened it.  I hate that!  How do I fix the settings??

thanks

c

rm -rf /*

Ooops, I'm a unix guy. By the way, don't try that on any unix system if you like your job...

Weird, maybe Mike or someone else will know what is up.  This happens on my Dads computer, and Windows Picture and Fax viewer pulls up ALL temporary internet file images via the scroll arrows...not good.

Actually, somehow your file associations got screwed up, possibly by a program you installed or a piece of spyware/junkware/virus. Run install the newest spybot http://security.kolla.de, UPDATE the definitions, immunize the system and run a scan. Then install lavasoft Adaware http://www.lavasoft.com, make sure you update the definitions and scan the system. If you don't have a virus protection issue, install the free AVG program found at http://free.grisoft.com

additionally, have a look at the assoc command, if you are technical. If not, don't play with it...

C:\Users\Administrator>assoc /?
Displays or modifies file extension associations

ASSOC [.ext[=[fileType]]]

.ext Specifies the file extension to associate the file type with
fileType Specifies the file type to associate with the file extension

Type ASSOC without parameters to display the current file associations.
If ASSOC is invoked with just a file extension, it displays the current
file association for that file extension. Specify nothing for the file
type and the command will delete the association for the file extension.
