Subject: RE: XP Default settingsActually, somehow your file associations got screwed up, possibly by a program you installed or a piece of spyware/junkware/virus. Run install the newest spybot http://security.kolla.de, UPDATE the definitions, immunize the system and run a scan. Then install lavasoft Adaware http://www.lavasoft.com, make sure you update the definitions and scan the system. If you don't have a virus protection issue, install the free AVG program found at http://free.grisoft.com
additionally, have a look at the assoc command, if you are technical. If not, don't play with it...
C:\Users\Administrator>assoc /?
Displays or modifies file extension associations
ASSOC [.ext[=[fileType]]]
.ext Specifies the file extension to associate the file type with
fileType Specifies the file type to associate with the file extension
Type ASSOC without parameters to display the current file associations.
If ASSOC is invoked with just a file extension, it displays the current
file association for that file extension. Specify nothing for the file
type and the command will delete the association for the file extension.
