Email I got from the RD's today:

Hello All,

Just a quick note to remind everyone that we will be having two (free) pre race rides of the Jerseyman ½ Iron and sprint bike courses.  The first ride will take place this Saturday August 2nd and the second ride will be on Saturday August 23rd.  We will have different pace groups for both courses with an aid station around the half way point on the 1/2 Iron course. The aid station will have gatorade, water, pretzels and bananas. There will also be refreshments in the finish parking lot. We will be providing cue sheets and marking the course prior to the rides to ensure no one gets lost. We will provide the cue sheets and go over the course just prior to departure. We are limited on the signage that we can post due to municipality regulations so it will not be race day signage but it will be clear so you can feel free to ride at your own pace (if you wish) without the worry of getting lost. We are planning on leaving at 8 a.m. for both courses. Spruce Run Recreation Area charges admission to the park at this time of the year so we have decided to start the ride slightly outside of the park. There is a gravel parking lot that is on Van Syckles Road that is ~ 1.4 miles from the park entrance. If you are coming via Route 31 it will be 1.4 miles past the park entrance and if you are coming from exit 12 on Route 78 it will be 1.4 miles before the park entrance. We will have balloons by the street so you know which lot it is as there are several. To ensure the full course is ridden we can circle back to the park to cover that portion of the course. I know many people are coming from a distance so if for some reason you are running behind we will leave cue sheets by the coolers that will have drinks in them. It looks like we will have great weather for the ride although the temperature will be rising as we roll on so be sure to bring plenty of fluids! This is a great opportunity to ride the course prior to race day and it will be fun to ride with new people and make some new friends prior to race day. Please feel free to pass this alone to others that are thinking of doing the JerseyMan, the more the merrier! I know many of you have inquired or confirmed about these rides but if you are going to do one of these rides or are thinking about one if you could confirm via email that will help us with determining how much aid to provide. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions we are happy to answer them. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Train safe,

Ian Heffernan and John O'Connell

Race Directors

P.S. There has also been several inquires into water temperatures and wetsuit regulaions at the JerseyMan. The water temperature should be between 70-73 degrees. The JerseyMan is a wetsuit legal race so f you do not own one and would like to rent a wetsuit please visit  www.wetsuitrental.com. They are a great company and offer a great service for a reasonable price.

Nice write up!!  I'm doing the sprint course, and hopefully my training is going to match the terrain.  On my home trail, I've got a 17% grade and one 20% (I hate it...I fell the first time climbing it), so I'm hoping for a 1:10 time on the sprint course.  I'll be riding the course on the 23rd.

Kagoscuba, I checked and the sprint course goes through the hillier part of the course I did, but still there's no serious climb, nothing like 17-20%...
