Qucik question.....and looking for some advice.

I'm doing the Accenture Tri in Chicago next Sunday (8/24). My training is going good (albeit a little light) and I feel that I'm on pace to finish the race and have a good time. This is my first OLY so I'm not going to break any records or win.

So.....to make a long story a little longer.....my SIL just had her baby (yeah...) and my wife is going to spend next week with her. I will have my little one (2 yrs old) with me and will not be able to work out AT ALL on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (my travel day). Is this going to pose a problem? I will get a little workout in on the Friday before (bike/run) the race.

This weekend I was going to do my last long bike and run.

Should I be worried about missing 3 consecutive days leading up to the race or should I HTFU and live with the fact that I'm missing 3 days?

Suggestions, comments, criticsism, hijacks, anything?

Thanks

Three to four days, the week before a race, isn't going to significantly effect your fitness, either positively or negatively.

One thought however.  You say you can't work out at all with your two year old?  A couple of things come to mind.  Buy, rent, steal, or borrow a jogging stroller, a bike trailer, or best yet, a bike trailer that converts to a jogging stroller.

I can't tell you how many runs and bikes I have done with my kids due to be the only one home with them or just giving my DW a break from them.

My experience with OLY was the opposite. The last few weeks were critical! Due to family vacation, I missed some biking and bricks. I think the missed workouts were an impact to my overall performance. I finished, but not happy with results.

If you can get friends to watch your child and maintain schedule, IMO, I would highly recommend it. You've spent too much time.

It's not ideal, but if you happen to have a bad race it won't be the reason.  In my final week before an Oly I probably only did about 30 minutes of easy stuff a day, more to clear my head and keep myself sane.  I certainly wasn't getting any significant fitness gains from them.  A week out from a race is time to really key in on your nutrition and hydration, because that can be what really derails a race.

ETA:  Practice your transitions.  That's always a really good thing to do in the last week, and you can do it at home.

The last few WEEKS is vastly different than the last few DAYS.  Since training gains take appx 7~14 days and fitness loss can take just a long, what the OP does or doesn't do this week will have little bearing on his fitness level come this Saturday/Sunday.
