Does anyone know where I can get the bolt torque specifications for a specific Specialized bicycle?  Does Specialized publish these?

We now have 4 Specialized bicycles that I must maintain but I am most concerned about a 2006 Transition Expert that I will be acquiring soon.

I understand that the torque specifications from certain components can be obtained from the specific component manufacture [i.e. the crank and bottom bracket], but the carbon aero seat post on the 2006 Transition Expert is a Specialized part according to their website.

Thanks,
Jim

Just checked my transistion and there is no torque listing on it. It is not a clamp type set up, it is a sliding wedge which basically holds the tube along the wedge and the seat tube. I've just used an allen wrench. If the tube slips, don't just assume the bolt needs to be tightened, carbon tubes slip. There's a compound that sometime is placed on carbon tubes to increase the friction, I just use a mild grit rubbing compound.

vonschnapps,

Thanks for the response earlier.  I received the bike last week and finally got to put it together this weekend and take it for a ride.  The seat clamping mechanism on the 2006 Transition Expert must be different from yours because mine is just a clamp [not a wedging mechanism].  The clamp looks to be made of aluminum and it sits on top of the seat tube.  I took the bike for it's maiden voyage today (with me as the owner that is) and the seat post did not slip, so I must have it tight enough.  However, I will try to remember your advice of a mild grit rubbing compound if it slides in the future [which I suspect it will].

Today, I took 10 minutes off of my 20 km bike time vs. what I did earlier this year in July during my first race using my mountain bike.  That sounds great, but the reality is just that the bike time that I posted on my mountain bike was at the slow end of the spectrum compared to all of the other competitors.  Still, I was impressed with the bike as it has been many years since I have owned a road bike.

Sounds great, it's an excellent bike, I love mine. A couple tips: 1) getting the cables through the frame is a terrible experience. If you ever need to change a cable, get a plastic tube, or small cable sheath and feed the end of the cable into it. Once you have threaded in, then you can pull the cable and tube through the frame. Leave the plastic tube in the frame, put the new cable end in it, then pull the tube through. 2) make sure you leave enough length on the brake cables and shifter cables, so if you put on a longer stem your cables won't be to short, 3) leave enough room at the end of the brake and shifter cables, if you have to extend the stem you'll have some extra cable to work with. (all the things I didn't do).

Have fun!

I may change the brake levers and cables so that is good advice.  The person I purchased it from installed a Vision aluminum base bar along with Vision Carbon Pro aero bars and Dia-Comp brake levers.  The brake levers work just fine but I am looking on eBay for the Vision brake levers - if I find a pair for the right price, then I will probably switch them out and they require specific Vision brand cables as well.  I doubt that the Vision brake levers and cables will make me any faster, and I have to admit that I just like the looks over the currently installed Dia-Comp's.

I am working on making it fit better as the cockpit is still a little long for me.  I will purchase a couple different stems and experiment to see what I like.
