Subject: half marathon 1 week after sprint tri?

I am new to triathlons and running is my best of the three.  I am currently running 20-25 miles a week and am planning to do a half marathon in January.  The event I'm interested in happens to be one week after my first ever sprint tri.

What do you think?  Bad idea?  Not ever doing a tri, I am not sure how my recovery will be.  I think I'll have enough time to rest, but I want your opinion!

I'm in a similar boat... I just finished my first sprint tri (turned into a du because of a cancelled swim) a week ago and am running a half marathon next week.

The sprint tri was actually shorter than the long run I had planned for that day, so it really was a non-issue. And my training schedule called for a 12-mile run the week prior to race day, which I did, so I don't think a sprint tri will screw you up at all.

Just my newbie opinion.

1 week is plenty of time.  I did a sprint 1 week before a 20K which is only slightly shorter than a 1/2 mara. and met my goals for both.  Given that these are your first races I assume you are not racing to win them, but rather to have fun and do your best.  If you are trying to win it may be differnet.  Have fun, good luck.

I think you will have plenty of time to recover.  I did a 1/2 the day after a sprint this summer with no issues at all.   I actually think a sprint can be less trying than some other work outs you might do in preparation for your half (e.g. intervals or tempo work).

If one of them is an "A" race you could always plan to be less aggresive on the other one.
