Hi, I have just decided that I will do the November 29th, Turtle Tri here in the Cayman Islands. I have been training for a couple of weeks with swimming and running....very slowly, until I am able to buy my bike. My main motivation is for general fitness and weight loss. I would also like to find something I can keep my self motivated to continue doing for a long time.

Billy, must be an awesome place to live, one of the dive spots I've always wanted to go to.  I don't know much about the island size, but are you able to get some good rides in?

Anyways, it is, in my opinion, the best sport for fitness and weight-loss as it targets a total body type of workout - very balanced, easy on the joints compared to single sport focus.

Good luck!

Thanks! I have not actually ridden a road bike here since I was in high school, but, it is a bit of a challenge on such a small island, 21 miles long, 8 miles wide. Not too bad, but, the conditions for riding are the concern. A lot of people end up getting knocked off their bikes unfortunately. I am waiting on the one bike shop to get their stock in (next week hopefully), then I will start training on the roads!

The diving here is great! I got certified at age 14, have not done much in many years though.

Welcome to BT!  I vote for a training trip to your island followed by scuba diving and drinks, not together of course.

Welcome and good luck.

It sounds like in a couple of months you will know every street in the Island

And to be able to ride in shorts.............that most be nice, I dont get a lot of that around here (Iceland).

Chances are you are going to love the challenge of Tri´s
