Subject: RE: Houston - good bike riding?kamal19 - 2009-06-29 11:40 AM Hi guys -
I've started going on longer bike rides (long for me - 20-30 miles) and I need some new places to ride. I've been using the trails at Terry Hershey/along Hwy 6 and around my neighborhood (copperfield area). Terry Hershey is getting boring and the street rides are getting annoying (stop signs, red lights, traffic, etc).
Where do you guys go for longer rides? Preferably on the west side of town...
Thanks! You can go out to Katy and ride there - lots of open, flat roads to train on. During MS150 training season, there are TONS of riders on the road out there. There's a really nice +/- 20 mile ride out there that starts at either Katy High or Katy Mills and heads south, makes a loop and then heads back. I'm not sure how to map it for you, but if you head that direction and maybe check out Sun and Ski Sports in Katy Mills Mall, they can probably give you some route info. From the mall, there are several directions you can go with lots of flat land and few stoplights. You can map pretty much any distance you'd like out there...another good free resource to use on the web is www.mapmyride.com. Their free version is usable enough (pesky ads, of course ) and gives you map info and distances. Check that out too! Good luck! -Tim |
