Pain on top of foot... thinking it may be a stress fx.  No openings at Ortho until next Wed afternoon and I was supposed to race this weekend.  Should I find a walk-in clinic and get some answers sooner so I know what activities I shouldn't do?  ( I hate waiting

Depending on the size of the stress fracture a typical x-ray can miss it. You may need a bone scan to catch it.

From what I've read, an x-ray may not show a stress fx, at least not for the first couple weeks.  So I'd likely need an MRI to confirm (or deny).

Ditto...I had a x-rays taken that didn't show any abnormality...a week or 2 later I had a bone scan that confirmed my stress fracture.  Be prepared to wait...it can take a while to get in for a bone scan/MRI depending on your health care system.

And if it hurts, don't run.  I kept running on mine while waiting on the scan (thought it was just shin splints)...which meant I had to wait even longer to start running again.  I know it sucks, but if it is a fracture, you can do some real damage...and you've gotta be patient through the non-running and building back up.
