Subject: T2 Question (my bike is too short)
Im not a tall guy, 5'8- I have found that if If I take my shoes off on the ride and do a flying dismount, my shoes drag.  They get scuffed up and come off the pedals.  I have a 54 cm Fuji Aloha w/ eggbeater pedals... I feel ok running in my shoes because the cleats are pretty simple and small, but the bottom of my shoes is a super hard, super smooth carbon/ resin product.  I don't want to ruin them, or slip and fall because there is no traction.

Suggestions?

Buy some grip tape, the stuff women put on the bottom of their heels. And stick it under the contact points of your shoes.

Same bike, same size, same problem.  I lost a shoe going in to T2 once but thankfully a volunteer ran it to me so I didn't have to go back.  About the only thing I do is make sure my crank arms are parallel to the road and watch out for anything that might catch my shoes.  After a few thousand miles, my Sidi's still look brand new, so beating them up in transition might be the only way I ever get new shoes.

Sounds like it may be your pedals, I do not know much about the egg beater pedals but I thought they were more designed for mountain bikes but I could be wrong. Check and see if there is a way to tighten the cleat on the pedals..

Also do not worry so much about them getting scuffed on the bottom, does not matter if you wear them or let them drag they will still get scuffed up and the bottoms are hard carbon so they should not crack or break in anyway. You should not ruin them at all, you will replace them a lot faster because of smell (or seeing a cool new product) than them being scuffed on the bottom.

I have had my present shoe for 3 years and they are pretty scuffed on the bottom but it does not effect them.

someone else can anwer the question about tightening the egg beaters

The eggbeaters are def. a mountain type pedal.. bt they came withthe bike.  A new pair of really good pedals and cleats costs almost as much as the bike did!  I have been pleased withthem as a good intro into the world of clipless pedals.  I guess I ll just try to run in them a bit.  The cleats are only like $11 to replace... maybe new pedals for the next season...  If Im good, maybe Santa will hook me up.
