Subject: RE: Cyclist killed by drunk motorcycle driverI have pasted the story below from Newsday. This happened last night:A bicyclist changing a flat tire on the Wantagh State Parkway bike path was struck by a drunken motorcyclist and killed Monday night, police said.New York State Police did not immediately release the name of the dead bicyclist, who was identified only as a 19-year-old from Dix Hills.Police said the crash occurred at 8 p.m., just north of the Goose Creek drawbridge, as the bicyclist changed the flat tire on the bike path, which runs adjacent to the parkway and varies in distance from the road.Police said witnesses reported that James J. Ryan of New Hyde Park was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 2002 Harley-Davidson soft tail motorcycle, then left the northbound roadway, crossed onto the bike path and hit the cyclist. The bicyclist was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center, where he died.Ryan also was transported to NUMC and was admitted to the intensive care unit with "multiple injuries," police said. His age and condition were unknown on Tuesday.Police said their investigation "indicates alcohol involvement" as a one of the "potential causes" for the crash and charged Ryan with driving while intoxicated, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree reckless manslaughter, reckless driving and second-degree reckless endangerment. Arraignment details were not available Tuesday. Edited by elbi999 2009-07-21 3:01 PM
