For the run portion it should be on the front of your body. For the bike it is best, and sometimes required on the back. For this reason go get yourself a race number belt. It's a simple elastic belt with snaps on it to attach the number. Put it on to the back for the bike and spin it around to your front for the run.

Thanks, that is a great idea for the next one, but i needed it for tomorrow and this will be very useful

in a pinch you can always use a regular belt I guess.

Just safety pin it to the belt.

Many races don't require you to wear the number on the bike, where it flaps relentlessly in the wind. If that's the case, put in on in T2 and make sure it's on the front at the finish so the announcer can say your name as you complete the race.
