Subject: RE: 2010 trek 2.1 --- anyone own one?The other user is right. Trek saw a trend that folks looking to get into road bikes at this price point ($1249 ) were also seeking out higher end components. So... they ditched the carbon chain and seat stays in favor of a higher end drivetrain. The only carbon on the 2010 Trek 2.1 is the fork and seat stem, as opposed to the stays which were also carbon in 2009. The drivetrain is almost entirely 105 in 2010 which, particularly considering the shifters, is a huge upgrade from Tiagra. The brakes are still Tiagra, and the crank is a 600 series (which I think is still an upgrade from Tiagra ). Other than that it's all 105. The last difference that Trek notes in their pitch book (a book they give to dealers so they know which one-liners to throw at you to buy their product ) is that the geometry seems to have changed a bit to more closely resemble their race-god Madone series bikes (priced from $2,000 to $10,000 ). I hope this helps. I just bought one of these bikes yesterday, which absolutely can be raced if you want (just be aware that those with all carbon bikes & super high-end components are gonna have a technical advantage ). |
