Subject: Trainer Question

I have a Blackburn TrakSTand Ultra Trainer http://www.trakstandultra.com/

So when I set up my bike on the trainer, I use my hand and crank the pedal and then slowly adjust the "resistance peice" that touches the black wheel.  As soon as it makes contact and starts to spin the resistance peice I quit turning the knob.  Is this the right thing to do or should I make the resistance piece "tighter"

Also I noticed that when using a trainer it spews black crap everywhere and wears a flat "seem" down the center of my tire...is this normal?

The directions in my Kurt Kinetics said to give it a few turns after the tire makes contact.

Many people use an old tire or buy one that's made for trainers to avoid wrecking a good tire.

Okay so a litle more than just contact then.

Buy another tire or a whole other wheel? I guess i could change the tire out.

I have a cycleops fluid2 and the instructions say 1 full turn after the wheel touches the tire.  Not having the correct pressure from the wheel can cause you to shread tires or not have the correct resistance.  Just follow the instructions in your manual.  Buying a training tire might be a good idea after the resistance is correct.
