Subject: Dane/Jeff Co OWS

I'm not doing IM this weekend but I am doing a 70.3 in late October so I am looking for places in the general Dane/Jefferson Co area to OWS. I swim alone and therefore I try find a place that has a long beach/swim area where I can stay shallow enough to touch bottom but still get some extended swim laps. Lake Ripley was my location of choice but that beach closes after Labor Day. Anyone know of some Lake Ripley like options that would still allow public access? I know the quarry in Verona is an option but that is a fairly small swim area. Any other ideas?

Thanks much.

Gov. Nelson's State Park - I don't know if it's closed yet.  You would need a Park pass to get in.

Lake Wingra across from the Henry Vilas Zoo.

Lake Ripley is still open.  We swam there on Tuesday AM.

The restrooms are closed but the beach and park are still open.  I know they remove the buoys at some point.

Would Lake Kegonsa state park be too far? I have no idea what their hours would be as far as the swim beach goes, or if they even close for the season, beachwise.

I think pretty much everywhere stops having life guards after labor day.... But Rock lake (in Lake Mills) is a nice lake to swim in.
