Subject: Hello from Peachtree City!
Hey guys, new member and budding triathlete here.  My name is Chris and I've been running for about a year now.  I'm currently training for the Chicago Marathon.  Next year it would appear that I'm doing the Augusta half ironman in September.

My training plan is to get through Chicago and then start a round of P90X (in home bootcamp, takes 90 days).  During this time I'll keep running a bit and get on the bike once in a while.  Not until January will I start swimming.  My background is that I'm a strong runner, weak swimmer, and average biker.  I plan to get a lot of swimming advice from friends who are triathletes.

I just picked up a gently used Trek Madone but I have absolutely no clue how to use it.  Gears?  Cadence?  Again, I'll be getting some advice from friends in the know.  In the spring I'll get into some sprint tri's and then an olympic or two in the summer as I ramp up for Augusta.  I will also likely do the Country Music Marathon in April if I feel like I can do it.

Anyway, it's great to be here in the GA forum.  I'll definitely try to participate in group runs and rides if there are any.

Welcome Chris. You've definitely come to a great resource for triathlon knowledge. Not sure how long you've been in PTC so I'll just throw out some info. I also live in PTC and if you haven't already, you will find plenty of local resources too. We have an active triathlon club, Tri-PTC (website: http://www.tri-ptc.com/), which organizes a mock sprint triathlon every Wednesday evening at Drake Field at officially 6:30PM (folks start swimming early) through, I think, when the time changes back. The club has resident swim, bike, and run coaches who can provide guidance and organizes occasional events (i.e. clinics, guest speakers, reasons to eat/drink). There are also 2 great bike shops here, Trek and Bicycles Unlimited, who organize multiple weekly group rides of varying distances and paces. You can contact either of them for the current ride schedules. In addition, at least one (maybe more) of the endurance coaching organizations routinely organizes training down here. Endurance Concepts is one and often conducts swim, bike (and I think run) training here. Dan Arnett (Marvarnett) is one of the coaches on this site. Anne Chrzanowski is also one of their coaches, is local, and is the resident swim coach with Tri-PTC. And finally, the folks on this site regularly organize training opportunities. Unfortunately most of them are on the North side but occasionally there is something down this way or out on Silk Sheets. Best wishes in your race and training!

Welcome to triathlon. I agree with all of Tim's advice.  I'm doing my first half at Augusta this year and could not have come this far without the support of the tri-club in PTC and the amazing bike shops.  Good Luck!

Is Bicycles Unlimited a good place to go for a tune up and custom fit?  I'm told the Trek store is quite pricey.  Someone told me that the owner of Unlimited is a swimming coach and has one of those swimming treadmills in his store.

I get my tune-ups at BU and yes Mark swam for Nebraska? and is a swim coach. He helped me get my bilateral breathing down. I swam in their treadmill and it is interesting.  I ended up hiring Kim Bramblett for my tri training and she spent a tough hour with stroke analysis and teaching me drills.  I still hear her voice "yelling" at me to keep my right arm from crossing over -check out  www.multisportperformance.com .  In fact during yesterdays ride(spin class) I was surrounded by 4 people she has trained three of which are doing Augusta next weekend.
