Alabama Coastal Tri (Try it on) 300 yd OWS, 10 mile bike, 2 mile run done in 1:08:24.  Not bad overall for my first tri.  My run time is horrible, but i've always been somewhat of a slow runner (room for improvement).  Was a lot of fun.  The OWS was tough (really choppy), The bike went really well (felt good and knocked it out, maybe too hard), run was okay for my timeframe, but had to walk a few times and started cramping toward the end.  Left most all of it on the course though, didn't have much left when finished.

Thanks for all the help from everyone here.  All the questions answered helped with my transitions, etc. (although they need work).  BT has been a great resource.

Question is, Do i sign up for the one in two weeks: 600yd swim, 18 mile bike and 3.1 mile run?  This one was pretty hard, but i think i could finish.  Run would probably be hard and i probably couldn't knock the bike out as fast at 18 miles.

I love that BT was so helpful to you.    Great website, but greater people than anywhere else I've seen on-line, and that's why I keep coming back (even if kinda rarely nowadays...).

I think if you can walk away from a race saying "fun" and "room for improvement" then you ought to give it another GO while the season is still on.  Summer fades fast, and you don't want to wonder "what if?" for 6-8 months...so just go race in a few weeks and see how it goes.

Aim to only please yourself, and you'll hopefully enjoy it!

Cheers, -Sunny

My only concern with going to the longer distance in the swim since that's the only part you can't really stop and rest if you need to. I say go for it but I'm no expert (only 2 sprints so far).

The 300 yd swim wasn't too bad.  It was really choppy, but I was never in any trouble and definitely did not panic.  There were some people that were having trouble.  I did the 300 yd swim in about 7:52.  I don't think the 600 yd swim would be that much trouble, may take a bit more time and a couple more rest breaks (unless it's nice and smooth out.).

I definitely found out, there is nothing like a true OWS in the ocean.  Still did it in a good time for me, but I was thinking how hard it was the entire time.  With the surf, waves, etc. sometimes it feels like your getting nowhere fast.
