The running backwards is too obvious and might be perceived as over the top. How about biking with a mountain bike with about 25 psi. On the run, get a back pack and put two 45 lbs plates in.Whose idea was the bet anyway? Why not just s/b/r at his pace and enjoy finishing together. The first marathon I ever did the guy I signed up to run with was an active duty Captain and could run circles around me. But he said he we'd run together and we'd cross the finishline together. It was a great comfort to me to know he was gonna run with me. Turns out 9/11 happened and he was unable to run the marathon afterall. But I always appreciated that he was gonna run with me the whole race even though I know he could have bested me by at least an hour.~Mike

See who places best in their age group at a percentage like you placed 4/25 compared to 3/11 as that is comparing each of you to your peers not each other is probably the most accurate way to compare but since he is relatively new to this may still give you an unfair advantage.

It may be not that accurate if your age groups are small. If his 60-64 AG only had 4 people or even 8, AG ranking can get really skewed by who shows up.

If you do weird or silly things it may belittle what your dad is doing..like you only beat me because I rode mom's beach cruiser. But you know your Dad best.

Very cool your Dad has made such big changes. You should come up with something cool to celebrate what he will have accomplished!

You two can negotiate on a time offset (think of the point spread in a ball game).  If you think you'll legitimately beat him by 20 minutes, spot him that much time and if he is less than that behind you, he wins.

Alternatively, each of you project a finishing time for yourself and the closest to the mark wins (no watches allowed).
