Has anyone gone out to these Thursday night races?  What are they?  Is it fun to watch? How fast do the riders ride?

Twilight Crits are common midweek races that keeps it competitive for local racers and offers a great workout during the week. Depending on what category is racing speeds can vary from 23mph to 32 mph, sprints can go even harder. Races can last from 45-60min doing a typical 1 mile loop and each race will start out fast and end fast to seperate the riders. I thought it was fun watching the teams and learning racing skills and tactics, now I race and its even better. Bring a foldup chair and sit by the finish/start or just past a corner, thats where it all happens.

They also run crits on Tuesday evenings in El Dorado Park, that might be a bit closer for you.

I have done the crit at El Do, I go almost every week. I race 40+ (masters) last week we ave 25mph, that's with a neutral lap (the 1/2/3s passed us) Gets faster at the end and in prime laps. No sharp turns, all sweeping. Fun to watch? Not as fun as a "real" crit but..if you like that sort of thing you might like to watch.

$4 to park at ElDo. Park at Walmart and take the SGRT one mile south to the park. Can't miss it. I would like to go to the Irvine race, but it's a bit out of the way for me.

I thought about doing this but I still don't think I'm there as a pack rider or cyclist yet.  I avg 19 mph over 2 hours of riding on a semi hilly course, but ride solo alot.  I may go down and watch this week though.
