Well I finished my 4th Tri of this season today and I finally had a decent race. I have been trying to improve since June and just didn't think that I was getting anywhere, but today I had a break through.

You';ll love the name of this tri, "The Natchitoches Meat Pie Tri" http://www.meatpiefestival.com/triathlon.htm

Well, there was no Clydesdale division and that put me starting out with all the small males under 40. Swim was in a river/lake (no current) and was long, I don't know how long but I was over my swim time by about 4 mins.

To top it off it was raining and the roads are paved but a combination of asphalt and small rocks on the surface, which get really slick when wet. One of my sponsors is the local bike shop owner and he just told me to ride smart and I would be ok. I was a little concerned since we put a fast racing slick on my bike Thursday, but I road smart and managed to have a decent bike. I think I had a good bike because my computer went out at about the 4 mile mark and I felt that I was able to maintain a good pace for the bike leg.

The run kills me, I hold my on for the swim and bike and give up a lot of ground on the bike. As a big boy, it is just tough on me and I am working slowly but surely to remedy the problem. When all was said and done I finished!

What was nice is that I had a new PR and beat my old one by 12 minutes, even with a long swim and pouring rain on the bike.

12 minutes is a chunk of time. Especially in the rain. You must have been saving up from all those other races.
So, what did you do to celebrate a new PR?

I really didn';t do much to celebrate. The 12 min. improvement was my celebration.

After reading my post, I had meant to say that I gave up a lot of ground on the run, not on the bike. Anyway I guess my brain was tired from the race.

I am pretty sore today, but got up and went to the pool this morning to try to flush out some of the lactic acid. I try to take my vacation after a race when possible so I can rest up a little bit. Got to do some marketing this week for my sound company and have to do some marketing for my book, so it ends up not really being a vacation.
