Subject: Why We Do It Why do we do this? Threads come up all the time about folks who wonder why we do the triathlon thing. "Can't you just run or something?' they ask. But for those of us who have gotten hooked - there's no turning back ay? Watched the final episode of Frazier tonight - the last remnant of my couch potato days. Frazier says something that went to the heart of why I do this crazy thing. maybe you too. The quote goes something like, "In the end, the thing we will regret most are the chances we never took." That does it for me! It is the heart of BT - us "regular" folk who caught a vision of doing something we would never have thought of in the "old days." What if I can't do the swim? What if I gas out on the bike or run?" But I gotta do it. A sprint - that's all I want for now. Just hammer a sprint one time... well maybe two. But then there's something called an Olympic that sits on the horizon... I want to take that chance too. And then 1/2 IM?? Can it ever be possible for an old couch potato to do an Ironman? Yup - the thing I will regret most will be the chances I never took. So here we are - taking the chances and aiming for stuff some folks don't understand. But maybe our bottom line is... "Whatever else... no regrets!" |
