I know cyclists shave their legs to help with scrapes and road rash. I guess it heals faster without the hair in there messing things up worse.

When I swam, we shaved our arms / legs / heads... it wasn't really about being more hydro-dynamic... it's because with shaved legs you feel like you're going much faster in the water; slipping through it.

The girls didn't shave their legs except for big meets - this was enforced by the coaches and bitterly resented by the swimmers.

I thought it was because shaved legs look sexier.... ;-) The aerodynamics thing is a huge misconception - Green demon hit it on the nose - coming off the bike onto the concrete/loose gravel isnt fun with hairy legs, the hair tends to take flesh with it when you are sliding along at 35K+ and the recovery is even worse. Picking out individual peices of gravel from the wound, hidden by the forestation of hair can be a painstakingly long task. And when it comes time to replace the dressing every day for weeks after you will end up losing the hair the hard way anyway (1....2.....3..RIP!). In conclusion, wounds heel quicker and less painfully with shaved legs so i would suggest do it now before its too late!

I shave my legs for 2 reasons.

1. Shaved legs make leg muscles show more.
2. Shaved legs are easier to massage.
