Subject: RE: Won't up load.GomesBolt - 2012-09-14 4:42 PM Not to hijack the thread, but how much upload/download speed do you need for your internet typically? I just moved and I have to get cable/internet hooked up. I wanted to see what you guys have. ETA- also interested in thoughts on cable vs just sticking with the internet only. I'm on my own in this apartment for this school year and then the family will join me next summer. So I don't need Nick JR... I determine what speeds people need for a living. i own a company that designs Networks for businesses. ) Personally I have a 10M down with 2M up cable service at home. Cable service is very fast and is still engineered/sized very well in my neighborhood so it's the best option. i get a true 10 down and 2 up. The ironic part is you could have Gigabit Fiber to your house/appt, but if it's from a Crap ISP it can run like a dial up modem. How much does one truly "need"? To be honest just facebooking and watching youtube you only need about 100kb, but when you go to download that big software patch or watch HD movies on youtube you'll want to burst up to 1M or more at times. If you get any service that gives you 1M or greater down you'll be just fine. As for Cable or internet only, it's all about what you watch. The biggest hang up for many to cut the cable is losing live sporting events and popular series. However, most cable providers still pump the basic cable channels down a cable modem service. So you could potentially ninja cable for free with just a cable modem service. (disclaimer, you didn't hear this from me and I'll deny it and say somebody hacked my account and posted it here if you rat me out) |
