If you've been through an IM build before, did you constantly feel fairly beaten-up? I realize your fitness gains are realized during your down periods. I'm also realizing I'll never get to enjoy the new fitness............until close to race day. Please tell me it's noticeable...and that it feels awesome.

Sounds like you may have been overreaching. It's expected, especially with IM that you'll end up pretty exhausted at times and need to take a few days off (it happened to me every time), but you shouldn't feel beaten up all the time. I wonder if your nutrition could be improved? What's your diet like?

During the 2 to 3 peak weeks I would say yes, dragging to get out and keep going. Younger people may not feel it as much.

AT the end on your taper and on race day you feel like you should have a giant S on your shirt!!!!

I actually felt pretty good during the IM build before the race. I followed a smart training plan. I didn't feel beaten up but I felt like I had a part time job with all the training as the scheduled time required increased to the peak days.

I felt I was in my best shape of my life during the IM races but also may have lost too much weight. I think I should have kept a few more pounds on me but I was eating all the time and just burning so many calories.

THAT ^ is what I wanted to hear! Thank you.

To answer the previous question.....my diet is probably 80/20 (good/whatever). I am not starving myself or harming myself with what I eat. I actually feel a lot better than I did this AM. I didn't do a darn thing today (athletic) except mow my yard.

Thanks for the input.
