                    ![]() Swim
Comments: First tri without a wetsuit. The water was comfortable and clean. The waves were self-seeded, which was a little strange. I figured I'd be in the FOMOP, so I went in wave 3 of 6 and started near the front. What would you do differently?: Started in an earlier wave - they said that if you thought you'd be in the top 5 in your AG, you should go in wave 1. Not stress too much about the wetsuit decision. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: OUCH!!! There was a pretty long jog from the shore (which was really slippery - they had a helper there to make sure you didn't fall) to the transition area. Usually I'm so excited about the event that I don't notice the pavement on my feet, but this was rough! There were a lot of rocks on the uneven cement and I eventually had to walk because I didn't want to hurt my feet. What would you do differently?: Sandals at the edge of the water? ![]() Bike
Comments: Beautiful course. Rolling hills, which were actually pretty fun. What would you do differently?: I forgot to reset my speedometer, so I didn't have a distance or average speed to work with on the ride. Next time I have to remember to clear it before I start riding! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Another pretty long jog with the bike to the transition area. I had some pebbles stuck to my feet (sockless) that caused a few issues and it was a little hard to get my slightly damp feet into my running shoes. I guess I hadn't practiced the wet foot transition! What would you do differently?: Completely wipe off my feet to get my shoes on. One of my insoles got a little messed up and was irritating me for the beginning part of my run. ![]() Run
Comments: I didn't expect to finish in <32 minutes. The first half was primarily uphill, so I must have jammed on the downhill. The sun came out a little as I was going over a bridge and the water was all shimmery. It would have been tough to not be happy with scenery like that. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walk & stretch What limited your ability to perform faster: Um, I was on vacation the week before and drank way too much wine. But seriously, I'm really happy with how I did at this event. Event comments: Just the third year of this event. Beautiful venue. Few things I hope they change for next year - would have liked to see the rankings for the individual events, a more standard wave system to start and a little more substantial (bagels?) food at the end of the event. It was also interesting that we weren't fully body marked - just our bib # on our hands. Not a huge deal, just interesting. Rumor is that they're doing a "histri" on Sunday next year as a follow-up to the all-women tri on Saturday. Last updated: 2006-10-03 12:00 AM
