My daughter has expressed interest in training for junior tri's. Do you have training plans for kids?

Adults who are just starting out on a fitness regimen can be pretty safely be divided into a few basic groups who can use somewhat generic training plans. Given that a lot of people have as their goals to achieve a decent level of fitness and finish a triathlon, training volume, etc doesn't need to be too individualized at first which is why our 'Minutes Only' plans can be safely put out there. Adults can also generally rely on themselves to listen to their bodies and know when to back off and when they can take a bit more.

This doesn't really apply to kids. There are more things to take into consideration with a child, so the safest thing would most likely be to get the advice and input of a coach - preferably one with experience with kids in your daughters age group...

Hope this helps.  Maybe some other parents with kids-who-tri can chime in on what they do.

I'd offer advice if I had any. My oldest has done two tri's and several 5K's. She took OAF in the last tri. She also pulled off a 28:04 5K. The sickening part? She doesn't train.

We did buy a book called "Triathlons for Kids" by Sally Edwards and that has a lot of good info in it. From what I read in it, most "plans" for kids basically consist of doing each sport once a week.

Good luck and congrats that your daughter is showing interest in tri's!!!

do you still need one? I have one that I used for my kids when they did their first triathlons at ages 5 and 9.

I'd be interested in seeing those training plans. My 7 year old very much wants to do a tri on Thanksgiving but I dont think he's ready. He can run only 1/2 mile without stopping to walk, and is not good at pacing himself. I'd be scared he would try too hard at first and not be able to finish (it's a reverse tri 1mi run, 3.5 bike, 150m swim). Thanks.
