Well I know Kate Allen ran for Austria but she is Australian - comes from not far from where I grew up, and Loretta Harrop has overcome grief (the death of her triathlete brother) and injury to get silver. Well done the American mum for bronze - wasn't it nice of them to let her have her daughter on the podium? Purists would disagree but as a mum who Tris (and Try's) I can understand the work it takes to get there. What a great race - how about those hills on the bike course!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaargh! :-O

Purists wouldn't allow women in the Olympics let alone view them under penalty of death It's good to live in modern times.

I was just looking at the results and boy, that was a crazy pace she put in on the run! I wish I could run like that.

It was a great race - it would have been greater had Savege (who was in 5th on the bike) not crashed her bike and still completed the race blood streaming down her leg. I wonder why that didn't get any real press - I would have though toughing it out like that would have earned some respect from the press (but then again it is the press).

This is what she had to say on the crash:
"I mean, I got back up and kept going and really hurt my shoulder and...I couldn't climb, but I've crashed before in a race and I hated the feeling of not finishing. I think I battled some demons out there today."

I don't know if I would get back up on the bike to finish or to limp home after the kind of wipe out she had. I hate road rash.
