Subject: Sick days, when to take time off?
Here I am down with a sinus infection/headache... no more fever today- I know i need to take time off from swimming.... i'm wondering if i should still run or bike.

does anyone know how to determine when to take time off from training due to illness?

You probably need to go easy when training for a while, at least until your body has a chance to produce enough WBC's (white blood cells) to fight off your sinus infection. If you truly do have an infection then you can train lightly. As we train and push our bodies to the limit, the immune system will take a beating in lamens terms. Yes overall fitness will produce a stronger immune system but while in the mist of an infection your body needs your help. So in short, becarefull not to put too much stress on an already stressed system. Take a few more days to rest  (I know that is not what you want to hear) and start back at a slower pace. Sorry to be lengthy but healthcare is right down my alley! Get well soon!

I would take it easy just in case you injure yourself because you are unable to concentrate.

Thanks guys! You're the best.... Dave, you're right, it's not what i wanted to hear. By the way, what field are you in? Since i can't get into the doc until Monday for AB's then I've taken the time off. [I need the AB's because this is my second one in 3 weeks]. I guess no swimming, until all the colored mucous disappears. [that was a gross visual- sorry].

Nothing to do but check out the forums and prepare for the superbowl now.... I guess go Patriots!
