Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I hope to meet a few people at this one. I was SOOOO nervous at the last one and I hope to have more fun this time. Will it be all the same competition? |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will be there again. I have yet to meet any of the BT folks. |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just signed up for this one. Not sure how wise it was for me to do that since I'm also doing Carl's at Kensington 2 days prior ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I "twanged" my achilles tendon playing softball. ![]() |

New user ![]() | ![]() I will be there too. Ericcooper: I did the same thing for the last one of the T-rex serie: I raced the Sunday before the Triceratops and everything went fine. That's what nice about these Sprint races. They are short enough that you do not need a lot of recovery time in between. Some of my training sessions are longer than one race (even though less intense of course). Good luck to you! |

New user ![]() | ![]() By the way.. Is there any chance that wetsuit will be allowed? Or is water temperature constantly above the limit at this time of the year? I'm kind of new to this ![]() |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will most likely be there! I am thinking it will be wetsuit optional. The weather is milder however we have a week or so and all that can change. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since the event is USAT sanctioned, I am guessing they'll have to stick to 78 degrees or higher = no wet suits. I swam in Kent Lake over on the other side of the lake for the Kensington Tri on 6/28 and the water temp was 77. FWIW, I swam in a shorty that day. Not for the temp, but rather for a little bit more float as there was a slight roll to the lake that day. I am going to have the shorty in the car for this event, but am preparing to swim without it as I'd guess water temps will be at least 78. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone have a working link to a swim course map? If not, can anyone doing this prior describe the course? TIA!!!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() the swim course is out and back keeping the pink dinosaurs to your left. 440 out 440 back. the last race (late june and i can't remember which dinosaur) was 95ish degrees and was tough. if i remember right the water was about 76 degrees and about 1/2 the people wore wetsuits. at this point the weather calls for low 80's on the 22nd. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just went out for a run at ILRA last night and decided to dip into the lake for a swim. It was NICE. Not cold, but felt wonderful. Wetsuits not needed right now. Estimated current average temp at Kent Lake (remember taken via satellite, not at the Kent lake Beach) is reading 66*. I think that it was closer to the low 70's if not high 60's last night. |

I was there. I don't know if the guy was kidding or not but he said they were going to reverse the swim course for this race. For those who breathe on the right it would be easier to see the dinosaurs. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Update (or lack thereof) from packet pick up: I was told that they are "dropping a thermometer" in the lake this afternoon & should have a water temp update for those picking up later today. If someone finds out the temp, an update here would be much appreciated. I am packing the shorty wetsuit reagrdless. No final word on the swim course either. I was told it would a "triangle" and Randy was considering going clockwise (fingers crossed for this as I am a right side breather). Finally, I like the T-shirt. I'd assumed they'd use the same shirt for the 3 race series as I didn't do the June race. Not to be the case, this one is Pterodactyl specfic and I am happy to have cotton versus tech on this one. One thing I forgot to ask, as the skies hadn't opened up as of yet, is what their foul weather plan was as tomorrow has a high prob of rain & storms in the afternoon. I hope it is not to switch up to a duathlon, I want to swim! Good luck to all tomorrow! |
![]() ![]() |
Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm swinging by to do packet-pickup after work (~4:30ish). I'll ask if they have the water temp reading yet, and also about a "foul weather" plan. |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just ran up to pick up my packet and asked about water temp - no one there knew what it was and didn't seem to know when the call would be made. They didn't think that it'd be too warm for wet suits though (certainly not the 81 degrees that was claimed at Carl's). |

I'll ask if they have the water temp reading yet, and also about a "foul weather" plan. I was told that if there is light rain then the race continues, if light thunder/lightning then wait and see after short delay, and finally if severe weather then check email to see if race canceled. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() if it happens to get canceled due to weather, any idea if it would be rescheduled?? i was planning on doing this tri, however i'm unable to participate due to a stiff neck... so if it gets postponed that would be great for me. i hope for all your guys' sake though that the weather turns out beautiful. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A FABULOUS TIME!!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is what the running fit trex page says: "It might be a wet one! The Head Cretaceous Creature says we’ve never had to cancel an event because of the weather. Rain or shine, we will be there! There will be delays if there is thunder & lightning, but we’ll start eventually…bring a headlamp! As the USAT recommends, if there is lightning within 6 miles of the event, we will postpone the event until we are clear of thunder for at least 30 minutes." No word there about water temp at this time. |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() | ![]() the website says the water is 75 degrees. Tuesday, July 21 - The Head Cretaceous Creature reports that the current water temperature is 75 degrees....so, if we were having the tri today, you could wear wetsuits! Just to give you an idea! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Awesome news about the temp and the weather plan! Its all in the Running Fit email today (but they used white lettering so it pastes invisible). What's up with their timing strap? I think it'll fit around my waist, let alone my ankle! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had the chance to race in the rain a couple of times (once in a heavy mist and once in a complete downpour). Thought I share some advice I received & things I learned. First, double up on the Body Glide and think of anywhere that would rub. I still have some rubs from Anchor Bay 10 days ago. Not much to say about the swim, other than you may have to site a little more with dark skies (I never swam at pink dinos, might be easier than orange & yellow buoys). There are a few things on the bike: Wear your glasses if you can, rain drops hurt like heck on the skin, even worse in the eyes. Stay off the painted lane markers, etc, they are like ice on skinny tires when wet. If you drop down to the bottom part of your bars on a road bike be careful of slipping. My wrap became slick and cold wet hands were a bit tough to keep in place. Ride on the higher side of the road, which is usually the middle section as vehicle tire will have compacted the two outside portions. Even at three bike lengths back, you'll gat a ton of spary off the rear tire of a bike in front of you. For the run, I go sockless. If you wear socks, think about some Vasiline in the toes of the socks to avoid blisters with wet feet. For transition, I'm bringing a rain coat to cover my shoes & mat. A garbage bag would work as well. That is all I can think of for now, anyone else have wet weather advice? |

![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes, but only the toes. And, you may want to have two pair ready, one with the Vasoline & one without depending on what is going on with the weather. If you haven't had blister problems before, I'd go with the dry socks if there is no rain around. Depending on how dry your feet are at T1 (I don't dry mine at all, just spray off the sand and stuff them sockless in to my road shoes) you can think about the Vasoline ones. I probably need to qualify things a bit. I am PSYCHO to the extreme about race planning, so if my stuff seems over the top, it probably is. I've learned that I am happiest when I am planning each step of every race down to the minute details, but know others enjoy things going with the flow. |
