Subject: Arizona v. Florida IM?

I'm trying to decide between Florida and Arizona IM's to do as my first one in 2009.  Does anyone have any experience with both that they can elaborate on?  Florida is at the beginning of November and Arizona is at the end of November.

 Any help is much appreciated!

Firs depends on Logistics I did IMAZ in 07 and had to fly and ship my bike this year I am doing IMFL and I can drive and be there in 6 hours. Second they are different climates so I would also look at which one best suits your training climate. I was not use to the heat type in AZ so that is also a big difference for me. Also FL has Ocean Swim and AZ has a swim in Tempe town lake. So again this is my opinion find the closest asnd easiest to get to as well as something that is similar to the conditions you race in. Again just my opinion becuase they both cover the same distance it is just your preferance! Good luck!

Humidity is the biggest climate difference and a big factor in my decision. Tons of it in Florida, very little of it in Arizona.
Weather on the November date in Ariz is historically MUCH cooler than the April date. Any single year will vary of course, but on average Nov 23rd has had a high of 72, low of 48, with an average temp all day of 60. That's racing weather!

Also, to tag onto the logistical consideration.  If you are from the north, you are probably starting to notice the loss of sunlight in the early am hours. For example, I have been forced to wait until 530am to start my biking where I was able to head out by 415-430 just a few weeks ago.

If you are depending on those hours for training, like I do, and prefer to ride you bike while it is light out, you are going to be quickly running out of time to do your am workouts. It probably doesnt matter much, but if you race the earlier race, you will have do deal with this issue for shorter period of time.

At this point it will most probably come down to whichever one you can get into.
