Subject: Questions about weightloss... Help!

I did a bit of research and used a TON of calculators to figure out how many calories I need per day. Based on my activity level (30-60 minutes per day) and height / weight (5'9'' 244lbs) it would appear that I need about 3,165 calories per day to maintain this weight. That seems lika a bunch to me... Honestly it sounds a lot like how I was eating to get this way!

Anyways, I did a little math and used some more calculators and determined that at 1800 calories per day I should have a weekly caloric debt of 9,555 for a loss of about 2.73 pounds per week. at at 2000 calories per day I should have a debt of 8,155 for a loss of 2.33 pounds per week. do these number sound right? Is this reasonable?

I have been trying to eat 4-5 times per day and am really watching my portions right now. My daily intake has been between 1400 and 2000 this week so far but the weight seems to be staying roughly the same. I'd like to stay in the 1800 to 2000 range, and at that rate I am never hungry. any suggestions? advice?

Thanks!

Be patient, it sounds as though you are at a good calorie range, you will loose if you stay consistant with your diet and training!  Some ideas that hopefully might be helpful, forgive me if you already do some, I did not get allot of info other than calorie range. #1 Strength exercise, do a light workout a few times a week hitting all major muscles, I keep it quick doing situps, pushups, pullups, one legged squats, this will accelerate fat loss. #2 Drink water, coffee, tea & skim milk, stay away from juices and sodas & diet sodas, etc. You want to keep your sugar intake at a minimum except for after workouts(check sugar content on all labels of food you eat). #3 Try to eat small meals more frequently(3 meals & 3 snacks)eat something every three hours, spead out your calories. #4 Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day and they should get smaller as the day goes on. #5 No carbs in the evening, all evening snacks should be healthy protien. #6 Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. #7 Try consuming a protien shake for a few of your snacks during, it will accelerate fat loss even more and curb any cravings.

I think 1,400 is far too low for you. 1,800-2,000 sounds better for now.

I would add try to cut down on some of the starches in your diet. Focus on lean meat, veggies and fruits rather than pasta and breads.

I use this site, piggpen.

Fill in the info you have, set it for -2 per week, and see what it gives you.  Compare it to the other numbers you got.

http://www.dietitian.com/calcbody.php

The reason I like that site, is that it gives you a total nutrition print out of what you need...not just a raw calorie number.

I have just lost over 50lbs in the last two years. I am here to tell you it can be done with diet and excercise. With that said, ask yourself this question: When you are excercising, how hard are you really pushing yourself? The intensity of your workout has a lot to do with the results of your workout. I was working out and watching my diet but not losing any weight. I met a guy in the gym who is a cage fighter and he showed me how he works out. I changed my workout to high intensity, minimal rest periods and really pushed myself to the limit each time i worked out. I saw more weight fall off then ever before. So I ask you, how hard to you push yourself? Make sure if you are working out you are being as intense as you can with your workout. Everything else sounds like you have it down. Stick with it and increase your intensity and the weight will melt off..

 Good luck.

every time I use that site it tells me the minimum of 1200 calories a day... which is way too low...

If you can find a Reg Dietitian in your area, I would ask them if they know where you can get a quick metobolic test done that will tell you exactly what your caloric intake should be
